This lecture series offers an overview for the understanding of the Middle Paleolithic (350.000 – 45.000 years ago). The readings will revolve around topics that concern the lifeways of Neanderthals, the hominin species responsible for the Middle Palaeolithic archaeological record in Europe. Lectures are held in German. Most of the readings will be in English, and therefore a good passive knowledge of English is required. Required reading: Churchill, S.E., 2014. Thin on the Ground.
