Beschreibung:
The course focusses on the Upper Palaeolithic of Europe dating to between 45.000 and 12.000 years ago. Part of it has been described as the “Golden Age” of mankind. It is the era when anatomically modern humans, that emerged in Africa at around 300.000 years ago populated Europe. They organized their every-day life according to rules and regulations, and in Europe formed the earliest societies we know to date. The Upper Palaeolithic is an era where artistic work blossomed, where we see the first bona fide burials as well as dwelling structures and where we witness the earliest colonization of formerly uninhabited territory.
The course provides an overview of the archaeological evidence with reference to current research questions. It will be held in German in a virtual format that incorporates lectures and seminar work. on Thursdays, 10-13 hours.
